Mobile first – what does that mean?

There is no doubt that mobile devices and their connectivity have already influenced the way we are working and will continue to do so. We bring our mobile phones with us everywhere. Mobile devices, WIFI and battery have become something we just have to have. We use our devices every day, both private and while working. That is why we have made designing mobile pages one of our most important strategies when creating new websites or apps.

According to theEricsson mobility report, the number of mobile subscriptions has reached a total of 7.9 billion globally, mobile data traffic has increased with 49 percent between Q4 2018 and Q4 2019.

80% of browsing the internet happens on a mobile device. That makes web design, data security and latency paramount for software companies to succeed with developing and distributing applications.

Mobile first for design

The “Mobile first for design” approach is a design strategy that starts sketching and prototyping on the smallest screen first and work your way up to larger screens. Designing this way, also forces graphical and UX-designers to reduce numbers of elements and focus on the essential.

Mobile first for almost no latency

Using a software on a mobile device, users expect practically no latency but doesn’t necessary understand why the software is lagging, whether it is due to bandwidth, latency or throughput, that is why software companies that focus on  “Mobile first design” approaches also need to have a “Mobile first for almost no latency”. Furthermore they need software that offers real-time solutions handling data added through different sources like: satellites, public data and user-generated data. It is important to to know what kind of technology you want to build your product on.

Mobile first for data security

Mobile security is at the top of every company's worry list these days — because nearly all workers want routinely access to corporate data from their smartphones. Keeping sensitive info out of the wrong hands is an increasingly intricate puzzle of how software applications organize the storage of data, but it also involve login access, domain controller, remember password and reset password. Focusing on mobile devices challenges the mobile data security, which is why we also have to have “Mobile first for data security”approach.

We aim to develop the best decision making software for people working on the commercial side of the maritime industry (chartering, trading, brokering etc) and we will develop Maritime Optima in modules based on feedback from our users

We believe electing technologies has been one of the crucial decisions to take when we decided to go for a mobile-first approach.
